ROBIN DAVID JACKMAN
13th August 1945 – 25th December 2020
You will no doubt all be aware that Robin, yet another stalwart Oaks Member, has Answered the Sunset Call. He took ill at home, early last week, and was peacefully Called to Higher Service, on Christmas afternoon.
We have all seen and read, the many tributes to Robin, that have poured in over the last few days, and as a collective, we extend our deepest condolences and sympathies, to Yvonne, his two daughters Lee and Debbie, grandchildren and family.
Jackers was a legend, and his involvement with the Oaks stretches back many many years. It is difficult to find anyone who has contributed more to the Oaks, than he has. He never hesitated to step up, with great enthusiasm, when asked to do an interview or speak. He was the ultimate professional, and always got the absolute best out of our speakers, while having enormous fun at the same time. Sadly he had to miss our recent Oaks Christmas Bash.
Over the last two or three years, we had hours of fun, as Jackers interviewed cricket personalities such as Robin Hobbs, J.P. Duminy, Brian Mc Millan, Michael Holding, Mickey Arthur, Andy Pycroft, Vince Van der Bijl, Tony Irish , Marais Erasmus, Jeremy Fredericks, Dale Steyn, and earlier this year Shaun Pollock, Mike Gatting and David Gower.
Many of us are blessed to have known Jackers since he arrived in Cape Town, and we have all, over the years, been party to his wonderful voice on TV, great sense of humour, and camaraderie.
The Oaks will most certainly miss him, and he leaves a very big hole in The Long Room.
Bruce , Graham, Nelene, and Steve
AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN, AND IN THE MORNING
WE WILL REMEMBER HIM
