Our cricket facilities are rated as one of the finest in the Western Cape if not in the whole of South Africa! Our First XI plays in the Premier League and has won that league and the two limited over competitions a number of times recently. We have five senior teams and a very buoyant Sunday Friendly Cricket team which transforms into the Chairman’s XI when we have weekday games, often against overseas visitors.

Our junior section is the strongest in the country with over 13 teams, which also includes hundreds of little park cricketers starting out under the best supervision possible.

Our facilities include 4 cricket ovals, the Wally Wilson, Vineyard, YMCA and Gary Kirsten, outdoor turf nets situated on the Wally Wilson and 4 indoor lanes at the Sports Centre in Ave De Mist.

Junior Practices

All WPCA clubs and schools have received communication from WPCA in the following terms:

“South African Schools Cricket Committee dated 23 February 2021, this communication serves as an official notice to inform all Youth and School Cricket Affiliates of the cancellation of all official Youth and Schools Cricket programs with immediate effect and up until the end of the cricket season (31 March 2021).”

The cancellation does not allow for any inter-club fixtures or matches, hosting of tournaments or travel to cricket events.

Training and practices may however continue subject to the adherence by members and participants to all legal restrictions and COVID protocols. Clubs are limited to play internal club junior matches.

With this in mind, we can offer cricket training for junior members on Friday afternoons from Friday 26 February to Friday 26 March.  Training would take place from 16h30-18h00, and would be broken into adequate age groups.

Mini-cricket coaching can go ahead if a minimum of 6 players are able to take part in training.

With the restrictions in place, we will plan age-appropriate internal matches for players. This may take place on weekends on the Club fields.

With the challenging year past, no cricket levy was raised due to the uncertainty of cricket in under COVID conditions.  The above cricket coaching option is available to all fully paid members. To accommodate coaches along with training and match days, a levy of R400 will be levied to all fully paid WPCC members.
