Western Province Hockey Section is one of the oldest hockey clubs
in the Cape. Originally the ladies and mens sections were separate
entities, with the ladies starting as WPLHC. This was about 80 years
ago. The men's section started some 60 years ago as a winter recreation
for cricketers.
The
hockey section, which is the largest hockey club in Cape Town with over
350 active members, playing winter league, summer league, masters
league and indoor league at various times of the year.
With its own artificial turf and fantastic Clubhouse, the hockey section enjoys one of the best club venues in the world.
This section attracts many young players from the surrounding schools
and universities. These players get valuable exposure to club hockey
via, on and off field, coaching from senior players. This formula
ensures that young players are always coming through the ranks.
The hockey section has a proud history of supplying players for the provincial and national teams.
